| Who are all these people and why do they keep trying to give us the check? This is the Fourth Banquet in the "ThemePark". Some of these images (including the Cadmus here) are hold-overs from the previous two feasts. Over the years, as we accumulated images for the Second banquet, we found that Woman, wining and/or dining on her own, is a favorite subject for painters. The gender of the painter matters not. We have no idea why they seldom paint Man, wining and/or dining on his own. (A few manly singles are in this collection, but even in those images, there is a strong feeling that company is lurking just outside the picture frame). There may be a PhD thesis in this. At any rate, there were so many good paintings of Women Alone, that we've given them a Park of their own, which explains why the lonely women are not shown here. To see this month's images, either click on the name of the artist in the list below or, if you prefer, indulge in a progressive dinner by clicking on the "next" arrows at the bottom of each page (including this one). (To see ThemeParks from months-gone-by, click on pArkive at the bottom of the page) Each of the images is accompanied by a link to the place from whence it came. Most of the links go to graphics sites, which tend to carry heavy traffic. The result is that you may have problems connecting to them. Keep at it -- most of the sites are well worth the trouble. We change our theme around the 20th of each month, so check back in late September to to welcome the Autumn equinox. P.S. If you click on "Paul Cadmus" under the picture above, you will be taken to its home site. Edward Hopper |
